Police are warning anyone catching flights from Hamilton Airport to plan for traffiic as Fieldays visitors block roads.

Waikato Police District communications manager Andrew McAlley said around midday motorists from all directions heading to Mystery Creek were being delayed up to two hours.

"Schools have given students the day off ... It's the first fine day out here and everyone wants to come to Fieldays."

McAlley said some minor accidents earlier today contributed to traffic woes.

"A three car accident at the intersection of Newell Rd and Airport Rd caused significant delays."

McAlley said traffic queues were up to 24kms long at 11.30am today coming from the north and south routes to Fieldays, and routes through Matangi were particularly bad.

"We had a patrol car come from Huntly and it took two and a half hours to get here."

One motorist said he had been on the road for two hours trying to get to the event from Hamilton East.

Police do expect another rise in traffic this afternoon as punters leave Mystery Creek.

Similar traffic woes are are being felt on SH26 between Morrinsville and Hamilton which has been reduced to a crawl.

How would you rate the 2014 National Fieldays at Mystery Creek?

Loved it. The best yet.

On a par with others.

It is too big.

Too static. Needs more live displays.
