Store lambs rose by $2 to $3 a head at livestock sales at Canterbury Agricultural Park, in Christchurch, this week. The lift from last week across all grades was despite a large yarding and top lambs made $90 to $95. The prime lamb market was unchanged and heavy lambs made $125 to $130.

Prime steers and cows rose 5 cents a kilogram, but store cattle, in a small yarding, were back 10c/kg.

Prime lambs

Values: In a good yarding the market remained on a par with last week. Heavy lambs made $125 to $130, good $115 to $122, medium $103 to $112 and lighter $ 95 to $100.

Values: In a yarding of 200 prime cattle, some good-quality cattle were offered and the market for steers and cows improved by 5c/kg, and the heifers and bulls remained firm from last week. Steers made 218c/kg to 228c, with sales to 243c; heifers 200c to 218c, with sales to 240c; cows 130c to 150c, with sales to 159c; and bulls 170c to 200c, with sales to 210c.
