Heavy prime lamb values rise at Canterbury sales

Heavy prime lambs rose in value to reach as high as $147 at livestock sales at Canterbury Agricultural Park, in Christchurch, this week.

Prime ewes also increased in value by $2-$3 a head across most classes of sheep. The store lamb market was firm with top lambs at $90-$97. Prime steers were five to seven cents a kilogram stronger.

Prime lambs

Values: In a medium yarding the market increased by $5-$7 a head on the heavier lines. Heavy lambs made $130-$140 with a top price of $147, good $118-$125, medium $107-$115 and lighter $95-$105.

Values: In a yarding of 200 prime cattle steers were five to seven cents a kilogram stronger and all other classes were firm on the previous sale. Steers made 220c/kg to 232 with sales to 241c, heifers 205c to 225c with sales to 231c, cows 120c to 150 with sales to 155c, bulls 180c to 201c.
