Prime lambs eased $3 to $4 at livestock sales at Canterbury Agricultural Park, in Christchurch, this week.

In contrast, prime sheep values rose for all classes by $3 to $4 a head from last week and the best of the heavy lambs made $115.

Heavier store lambs retained their price with the values falling for smaller lambs.

In the prime cattle market, steers eased 2c-4c/kg for steers while heifers and bulls were unchanged and cows rose 5c-10c.

Prime lambs

Values: The prime lamb market eased by $3-$4 across all weights and grades. Heavy lambs made $118 - $124, medium $100 - $114 and lighter $ 85 - $97.

Store lambs

Values: A larger yarding had a similar sale for the better heavier types, however, the small lambs eased significantly. The best lambs made $65 - $70 with the odd sale to $77, medium $50 - $55 and small $35 - $45.

Prime cattle

Values: In a smaller yarding the quality of cattle was down on the previous sale. The market eased by two to four cents for steers and remained the same for heifers and bulls with cows improving by five to 10 cents. Steers made 220c/kg to 230c with sales to 233c, heifers 200cto 220c with sales to 228c, cows 130c to 150c with sales to 164c, bulls 180c to 200c with sales to 208c.
