Store and prime lamb prices up at Canterbury sales

Store lambs lifted $5 to $7 a head on the back of last week's good rainfall at livestock sales at Canterbury Agricultural Park, in Christchurch, this week.

Top store lambs made $70 to $85.

The prime lamb market also rose for the most part by $4 to $5 a head from last week with top lambs at $119 to $126. Prime ewes were up $3 to $5 with top ewes at $99 to $112 and the odd sale to $122.

The prime cattle market eased 5c/kg from last week with steers making 200c/kg to 215c and sales reaching 223c.

Prime lambs

Values: In a small yarding of prime lambs all grades except lambs over 23 kilograms increased in value by $4 to $5 a head. Heavy lambs made $119 to $126, medium $105 to $115 and lighter $85 to $100.
