The tastiest and most tender lamb has been found after the top 20 lambs reduced from 158 mouth-watering entries were taste-tested at the final of the Golden Lamb Awards, known as the Glammies.

Gisborne farmers Fraser and Sara Briant, of Gisborne, beat off the competition with their coopworth lamb to claim the grand champion title in the Beef + Lamb New Zealand event.

Prime Minister John Key was among the panel tasting and judging the top 20 lambs alongside BMX Olympian Sarah Walker, Olympic flat water canoeist Lisa Carrington and Paralympic swimmer Sophie Pascoe with chefs Ben Batterbury and Darren Wright and head judge Graham Hawkes.

The 158 entries were put through scientific measurements of tenderness, succulence and colour before the final tasting.

The grand champion retailer title went to Progressive Enterprises (Countdown), North Island with their dorset/romdale processed at Silver Fern Farms Takapau.
