Trading activity on the NZX increased year on year by volume and value in June, figures from the stock exchange operator show.

Trading volumes have improved significantly this year, in part through high-profile listings that have attracted many small trades.

The number of trades increased 15.4 per cent from the previous June to 105,981, making it 644,373 trades in the year to date, up 21.9 per cent from the same period in 2013.

Equity trades were up 15.7 per cent year on year to 103,203 in June, with the value traded up 8.7 per cent to $2.8 billion.

Debt transactions increased in volume by 5.3 per cent to 2778 and 11.3 per cent by value to $84 million.

While trading volumes are up on last year, the total value traded in the year to date is down 15.6 per cent on the same period last year to $17.6b.
