Australians boost Akl Airport traffic
Australians are travelling more to New Zealand due to increased airline capacity, lower airfares and a favourable exchange rate, according to the latest traffic update from Auckland International Airport.
International passenger volumes were up 2.4 percent in October from the same month last year, excluding transits and transfers.
International aircraft movements were up 5.3 percent and domestic aircraft movements were down 8.7 percent.
The number of domestic passengers rose 3.3 percent.
A breakdown of arrivals showed a 23.1 percent increase in visitors from Australia, a 17.8 percent increase in arrivals from India and a 12.6 percent increase in arrivals from China.
Arrivals from the UK dropped 10.4 percent, and arrivals from Japan dropped 16.3 percent. Arrivals from the republic of Korea dropped 26.2 percent.
There was a 14.7 percent fall in arrivals for medical and education reasons and a 9.9 percent rise in holiday makers.
