Few redundancies expected from Gen-i restructure

Staff numbers in two departments won’t be greatly affected by a planned restructure, says Gen-i general manager of human resources Rowan Tonkin.

In fact, he says it wants to maintain staff numbers rather than reduce them, and adds it has 88 vacancies which it is looking to fill soon.

He says two people in the Professional Services and up to 50 people in the Service Delivery departments will be offered new roles or redeployed to other departments in Gen-i or its sister company Telecom.

"We have to offer them redeployment or redundancy, that's the rules of employment in New Zealand."
Staff who do take redundancy will be told before Christmas.

He expects staff numbers at Gen-i to remain the same over the next two quarters. "We did make 21 people redundant this year but we've put on 250 core roles. I don't want to reduce headcount but maintain it."
