British fashion chain TopShop has delayed the opening of its Auckland store because of disruptions caused by the Icelandic volcano, Eyjafjallajokull.

TopShop was due to open its first New Zealand outlet in the Department Store in Takapuna this weekend, but has pushed back the date to Saturday, May 1 due to delays in getting more stock out of Europe.

The Department Store managed to get 1000 units of TopShop clothing out of Europe before ash from the volcano caused massive disruptions to world air travel.

This stock is expected to go quickly, meaning the opening could be short-lived.

“The havoc wrought by Iceland’s Mt Eyjafjallakull eruption means that TopShop will only be open for this weekend until the freight backlog clears and more stock arrives,” the Department Store said on its website.

The disruptions have also meant online shopping orders have been delayed.

The average price of TopShop’s New Zealand stock will be $88.00, with premium items such as leather vests ranging up to $225, shoes selling at an average $102 and bags an average $150.

TopShop designers include supermodel Kate Moss.
