Air New Zealand has been named the world's best airline in a customer survey by UK consumer magazine Which?
In the long-haul airlines category, New Zealand's national airline trumped 17 other carriers, with second and third-place going to Singapore Airlines and Emirates.
The magazine said Air New Zealand got its top ratings for cleanliness and entertainment, closely followed by Singapore Airlines.
Emirates was rated top for its checked-in baggage allowance, which is 30 kilograms.
Head of Research, Rochelle Turner, said flying with a good-quality airline can make or break a holiday.
"No one wants their trip abroad to start in a cramped or dirty plane," she said.
"Our rigorous research shows that while the cost of flights is important to customers, it's things like friendly cabin staff and reasonable luggage allowances that leave a lasting impression."
In the short-haul flight category, Swiss Airlines topped the satisfaction list for passengers, while the eight worst-rated carriers were all British, apart from the Irish airline Ryanair.
