OceanaGold chief executive Paul Bibby has resigned for personal reasons and the gold miner has begun the search for a replacement.

Chairman Jim Askew will become executive chairman in the interim, the operator of the Macraes goldfield said in a statement.

OceanaGold is a standout on the NZX, having soared 255 percent in the past 12 months as the price of gold rose and the company chose to make more of its sales in the spot market. The shares also trade on the Toronto and Australian stock exchanges.

The stock fell 11 cents to $4.74 yesterday
