Kim Dotcom's file-sharing enterprise Megaupload may be on ice, but that hasn't stopped him maintaining a watching brief on New Zealand's cloud computing industry.
Patrick McKay, director of online software firm Empower, said he received a call from one of Dotcom's associates after Empower was profiled in The Dominion Post's "Keeping company" column last month and was invited to meet Dotcom in his Auckland mansion's guest house.
Empower – whose inspirations include Wellington online accounting software firm Xero – sells cloud-based customer relationship management software, most commonly used by businesses to manage contacts with clients.
McKay said the purpose of the meeting was not obvious, but Dotcom was a keen listener.
