Political lobbyist and communications specialist Matthew Hooton is expanding his consulting business, Exceltium, by joining forces with senior PR man Alan McDonald.

McDonald, a former journalist who has 15 years' experience will leave his role as a partner at Star PR to become Exceltium's general manager from August 1. He will take clients in the automotive, finance and investment, retail and agribusiness sectors with him.

The partnership will raise eyebrows in the fiercely competitive PR sector, where top level clients and accounts are closely guarded.

Hooton, who founded Exceltium and is its managing director, said McDonald's presence would expand the firm's corporate reputation, stakeholder management and media management offering.

McDonald will remain Auckland based.
