Social enterprise Eat My Lunch has hit its crowdlending target of $500,000, with just two days left before the campaign ends.

The company is aiming to raise $1 million to help fund expansion beyond Auckland and Hamilton.

Eat My Lunch launched a year ago and gives one free lunch to a child in need for every lunch bought.

In the last year, more than 200,000 lunches have been gifted to children in need, often more than 1000 a day across 33 schools in Auckland and Hamilton.

Eat My Lunch launched its PledgeMe lunch bonds campaign in June, with the hope of raising $1m.

PledgeMe founder Anna Guenther said whether Eat My Lunch reached that goal was up to the public.

"We've seen some campaigns double the amount pledged in the final few days and one company raise half a million in half an hour.

Regardless, the $500,000 ensures the company can expand to Wellington this year as well as improve its technology, founder Lisa King said.

"If we raise our maximum goal of $1m there's more work we can do to scale into new cities and towns."
