Fairfax Media has confirmed that it will no longer publish longstanding technology titles Computerworld, Reseller News and PC World.

The company's magazines division says it will resign the licences to the titles, owned by IDG, early next month.

The decision to close the print and web versions of the magazines under the Fairfax banner was made as the wider group adapted to changes driven by the economic climate in the publishing world, the company said.

Staff were being consulted about their options to remain with the company but job losses were likely, Fairfax Magazines general manager Lynley Belton said.

"As much as we regret having to make this tough decision, we believe it is in the best interest of our long-term success as a producer of quality content for New Zealanders," she said.

"We are proud to have been associated with all three titles for the last seven years and would like to thank staff, both past and present.

"We are looking at ways to increase our technology presence across other Fairfax channels."

All subscribers will be refunded for issues they do not receive.

The final dates of publication are: Computerworld, July 1; Reseller News, July 5; PC World, July 1.

IDG will announce its plans shortly, Fairfax said.
