Fyfe is an independent director, and in a statement to the NZX the company said independents now made up half of its eight-strong board.

Fyfe was chief executive of Air New Zealand between 2005 and 2012. He is also a director of Icebreaker and Antarctica New Zealand.

Michael Hill International had a solid 2013, with its share price appreciating nearly a fifth. Shares presently trade at $1.39.
