Domino's pizzas ordered on the go
An increasing number of Kiwis and Australians are using their mobile phones to order a pizza, according to the latest financial results from Domino's Pizza.
The pizza company reported a half-year net profit of A$14.5 million ($17.8 million), up almost 16 per cent year-on-year, thanks to strong performances from its pizza stores in New Zealand and Australia.
Domino's said it was growing its online presence and digital platforms, with over half of all online orders now being placed through mobile devices in New Zealand and Australia.
The ASX-listed Domino's has 570 stores in New Zealand and Australia, and a further 364 in France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Most are run by franchisees.
Revenue rose more than six per cent to A$140.8m. Same-store sales growth weighed in at 1.5 per cent. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation rose 15.5 per cent to A$26.5m.
Chief executive Don Meij said its focus on improving quality, service and the image of its products and stores in New Zealand and Australia, including the refurbishment of 18 stores, during the half-year had paid off.
The company opened 31 new stores in the first-half and plans to open a further 50-odd this financial year. It will launch new products here and across the Tasman next month.
Domino's Pizza New Zealand reported a net profit of $245,000 for the year ended July 1 2012, down 11.6 per cent year on year, according to Companies Office records.
Revenue rose 64 per cent to $5.7m, but the company faced an increase in expenses, including store-related expenses which more than doubled to about $974,000.
