TelstraClear wins back telco work from IAG

TelstraClear has clawed back millions of dollars worth of business with IAG that it appeared to have lost when the insurance giant awarded a four-year contract to Datacom in August.
Datacom was to have bought telecommunications services for IAG under the terms of the original agreement, which also covered the supply of information-technology systems and support.
"Last year, it looked as if TelstraClear was losing most of the business, and it was largely going to be Vector and Telecom Wholesale that were going to be brought in," says IAG chief information officer Allan Dornan.
But IAG will continue to contract with TelstraClear to provide much of its data network, after it came back with better pricing and a better offer, he says.
Mr Dornan says Datacom did not drop the ball and would continue to be responsible for overall service delivery. "They have done a remarkably good job of transitioning our services."
But there were some things in TelstraClear's offering that were superior to the current Telecom offering. "With Telecom, they were saying, `We will give you access to this great new network we are building and it is going to be cheaper'.
"I don't know for sure, but it smells to me as if they have delayed some of that rollout and some of that pricing hasn't come down as quickly as we might have liked."
