Forty-two thousand people have transferred a cellphone number to 2degrees since the firm launched its network in August, giving an indication of the number of regular mobile users who have switched to 2degrees.
Chief executive Eric Hertz said 85 per cent of those customers had switched to 2degrees from Vodafone.
The firm has not released estimates of how many customers are using its network with an 022 number, without transferring an 021 or 027 phone number. Some of those customers may be less loyal, switching between networks, using different Sim cards.
2degrees majority owner Trilogy Investment Partners won US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's Award for Corporate Excellence in recognition of its backing of Haiti's third mobile network.
The award, collected by Trilogy founding partner and 2degrees board member Brad Horwitz, is designed to recognise businesses that are improving lives in the United States and abroad.
