NZOG 'deeply regrets' oil spill
New Zealand Oil and Gas says it deeply regrets an oil spill at the Tui oil fields, which it part owns, in 2007. The spill has resulted in fines for the field's operators.
The discharge came from the floating production and storage offtake vessel Umuroa, which processes oil from the Tui oil fields off the Taranaki coast. NZOG has a 12.5 percent stake in Tui.
AWE, as field operator, and Prosafe Production, as the owner and operator of the Umuroa, have been fined $52,500 each by the District Court, NZOG said.
Since the incident a range of additional operational and facility management procedures have been implemented to prevent any re-occurrence of this type of incident, NZOG added.
"AWE, on behalf of the joint venture partners, worked closely with local authorities and community groups towards the restoration of the foreshore are affected by the spill with this work now completed," NZOG said.
Aside from NZOG, Tui's other owners are AWE with a 42.5 percent stake, Mitsui with 35 percent and Pan Pacific Petroleum with 10 percent.
