Airport silent on Tainui hotel report
Auckland International Airport won't comment on a report that Tainui Group Holdings wants to build a hotel at the airport.
The New Zealand Herald reported today that Tainui Group Holdings was planning to spend $80 million on a luxury hotel at Auckland International Airport, possibly in time for the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
Auckland International Airport spokesman Richard Llewellyn said it was not up to the company to speculate on what Tainui was planning.
"It's been no secret that we have been keen on a hotel for a number of years."
The airport first signalled the idea of a four-to- five star hotel at the terminal in March 2006, and is eyeing high quality hotel next door to its international terminal in time for the World Cup.
"But we cannot disclose who we have been talking with or what stage the discussions are at," Llewellyn added.
