Black Dog Brewery's Extra Pale Ale is set to be a barking success, and the SPCA is thrilled.

Proceeds from the new brew named XPCA will go to the Wellington SPCA.

Black Dog brewer Simon Edward said the dog-friendly bar held the SPCA cause "close to our heart and we always look forward to helping them out".

"The XPCA beer is a well-balanced New Zealand Pale Ale with some tropical fruit flavours and aromas and at 4.2 per cent is a nice light beer for a good Wellington summer day."

More than 100 people were at a launch for the beer at Black Dog Brew Co on November 26.

SPCA spokeswoman Vicky Hale said it was "heart-warming" to see so many people support the SPCA.

"Each year Wellington SPCA helps around 5,000 animals and with kitten season having started the funds raised will play an important role in helping animals in need and giving them the best chance at a happy, healthy life."

It was the third year that Black Dog has created a beer to raise money for Wellington SPCA.

XPCA will be available at selected bars around Wellington and at Black Dog Brew Co on Blair Street.
