If your man isn't keen on flowers, why not give him a bouquet of bacon? That's exactly what Timaru woman Adrienne Shaw is planning to give her fiance for Valentine's Day today.

Shaw's partner told her when they first met to never give him a bouquet of flowers.

Rather than give him a box of chocolates she thought the bacon bouquet was a perfect compromise.

"They're very unique and still pretty masculine. There's a meal in each bouquet."

The bacon bouquets were the brain child of Sue Morton of Waitaki Bacon and Ham.

She wanted her business to have a point of difference so got Jonell's Florist involved.

They trialled smaller bouquets last year and had nothing but positive feedback so decided to take it to the next level this year.

Each bouquet has six bacon roses made of a combination of streaky and eye bacon.

According to Morton they are stunning in every sense of the word from the look right down to the smell.

Each bouquet takes around an hour to make and they aim to make them look as realistic as possible.

For Valentine's Day this year they had around a dozen orders from Nelson to Dunedin, so have been busy in the past 24 hours.

Morton said she is humbled by the response to her creation and loves to see the look of awe on people's faces when they see them.
