Vodafone to cut 375 British jobs

Britain's Vodafone, the world's largest mobile phone group by revenue, is to cut 375 jobs at a number of locations as part of a restructuring to take out layers of management, a spokesman said.

The spokesman was responding to a report in the Times newspaper which said 500 jobs would go. He said the cuts were not part of a wider cost cutting programme, but a plan to restructure certain back office functions.

It will also create 170 new roles to deal with customers.

Last month Vodafone raised its outlook for 2010 after it posted third-quarter revenue ahead of forecasts due to cost cuts and an improving picture in Europe.
