Two young people are seriously injured after a crash in Wairarapa earlier this evening.

A male and female, both in their late 20s, were injured in the crash shortly after 6.30pm on the Masterton-Castlepoint Rd.

A police central communications spokesman said the couple weren't believed to be wearing seatbelts as they were both thrown from the vehicle.

Wellington Free Ambulance responded to the crash and took the man to Wellington Hospital and the woman to Wairarapa Hospital.

The couple both received CPR at the scene from by-standers.
