Seven Harleys and gold ingot in sting
Police have busted a 'methamphetamine supply ring' in Manawatu, netting a raft of vehicles, gold, and Harley Davidson motorbikes.
More than $20,000 in cash and 18 vehicles were recovered in the operation.
Officers from Manawatu, Wellington and the national asset recovery unit made the find after a search of a property in Taonui Rd between Bunnythorpe and Feilding yesterday.
The armed offenders squad was called and the fire service put on standby.
Manawatu CIB Detective Sergeant Dave Thompson said a "significant quantity" of a substance believed to be methamphetamine, chemicals and other drug-making equipment were found at the property.
In addition, police seized $20,000 cash, nine muscle cars, two utes, a BMW vehicle, seven Harley Davidson motorcycles, a quad bike, luxury watches, and a 142-gram gold ingot.
The items may be forfeited depending on the outcome of an investigation by the the asset recovery unit.
A 44-year-old Palmerston North man was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine for supply. He has appeared in the Palmerston North District Court and was remanded in custody. He was likely to face further charges, Thompson said.
Members of the Wellington clan lab team are assessing the property to determine if it was being used as a clan lab.
Anyone with information about drug manufacture or supply rings is asked to call their local police station. Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
