Police have launched a search and rescue mission for a 60-year-old woman who went missing in the Paraparaumu area this afternoon.
Just after 4pm the woman, who has a medical condition, left her Rifleman Lane home to go on a casual walk - and has not returned or made contact with her family.
Dressed only in a light grey coloured caridgan with a cable design down the front, dark blue jeans and white sneakers police are concerned her clothes are unsufficent to protect her from the cold night forecast for the Kapiti area.
She is caucasian, 170cm tall, of slim build and has short dark red hair. She is not believed to be carrying anything.
The woman may have become confused about her whereabouts.
A squad of 10 search and rescue staff and a police dog are looking for the woman.Police urge anyone who may have seen a woman fitting this description to contact the Central Communications Centre on 04 3182000.
