A "shady" man is alleged to have made inappropriate suggestions to a 14-year-old after she hopped off the school bus yesterday.
The teenager was on James Foley Ave in the Napier suburb of Pirimai when she was approached by a "shady" man, Inspector Hirone Waretini said.
She told the man to leave and ran home after he made "completely inappropriate" suggestions to her, Waretini said.
Police searched the area looking for a tall, blonde, European man but could not locate anyone.
Waretini asked anyone who saw the man between 3.30 and 4.30pm to contact police. He was wearing black pants and a top with bare feet.
People with information could contact the Napier police on 06 8310700 or leave information anonymously at Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
