LATEST: Prince William will visit Wellington in January.
Prime Minister John Key has announced that Prince William will represent the Queen at the opening of the Supreme Court building in Wellington on Monday 18 January.
It will be Prince William's first official visit overseas.
He will be in New Zealand from 17-19 January and will visit Auckland and Wellington.
The Prince last visited New Zealand in 2005 when he followed the British Lions' rugby tour.
Details of his programme will be available closer to the visit.
The Prince will also pay an unofficial visit to Australia, his first to the country since he was nine months old when he accompanied the Prince and Princess of Wales on their official tour of Australia and New Zealand in 1983.

New Zealand history is as much about the UK, the British Empire and the Royal family as it is Maori settlement and the ousting/ killing/ eating of the mouri-ouri (spelling?). I think the current fashion of even blatantly european descendants claiming to be Maori and being upset at the crown is a short-sighted view of history. Not so difficult to fathom when politicians fly criminals at the taxpayer's expense to a meeting where they are asked by Pita Sharples "Why are you fighting whakapapa against whakapapa when there are so many enemies who aren't brown?". Apartheid anyone????
