Three escape Porirua fire

Three people escaped from a house fire in Porirua this morning.
A fire communications spokesman said the blaze started in the bedroom about 7am.
The family - mother, father and child - got out of the house and were standing by the letterbox when firefighters arrived at the Beauzami Crescent house.
The fire damage was confined to the bedroom as the family shut the door to the room. No one was injured.
Station officer Gerald Twiss said it could have been a lot worse if the family did not have smoke alarms.
