Nats choose Franks for Wgtn Central
Relevant offers
He first entered Parliament as a member of the ACT Party, but now a more pragmatic Stephen Franks is making a political comeback with National.
Last night Mr Franks, a lawyer, was selected as the National Party's candidate for the Wellington Central electorate for 2008, beating former New Zealand Maori rugby captain Paul Quinn and business development manager David Broome.
He spoke fondly of his six years as an MP, and said he was looking forward to the chance to jump back into the fray.
As for his switch from ACT to National, Mr Franks said the parties shared many of the same values. However, he liked the fact that he could be more practical now and spend less time arguing for rigid goals.
Labour has selected its candidate for the electorate, former prime ministerial staffer Grant Robertson. Greens MP Sue Kedgley is also standing.

Should bicycle helmets be mandatory?

I was going to vote Act because I am so impressed with Steven Franks. However now that he is in National I don't know who to vote for. If we vote National, we will only get another Labour government, but wearing a blue shirt instead of red!
