Big Kumara closing its doors for good
METRO AND CAPITAL DAY REPORTER
Student party bar The Big Kumara is no more.
The bar will be closing its doors on Saturday before its parent company Dixon Cuba Hospitality Ltd faces a liquidation hearing on Monday.
The Dominion Post last week reported that owner Jonno Huntington was looking for a buyer for the Dixon St bar. It was not clear if a new owner would keep the current name or fitout.
In a message to patrons on their Facebook page, Big Kumara staff invited people to relive their "dirty little secret" one last time on Friday or Saturday night before it closed down.
Mr Huntington purchased the bar in 2009 after previous owner Andrew Gibson lost $2.2 million to DB Breweries on his failed mega-bar, The Temperance, in Blair St.
