Ticketek has refused to sell tickets to a raunchy fetish event featuring live bondage and domination displays in Wellington in October.
The ticketing company told Capital Fetish Ball director Greig Wilson some of its young staff might feel uncomfortable selling tickets because of the content of information relating to the event.
Mr Wilson said as Ticketek had previously sold tickets to events like Puppetry of the Penis, it was disappointing that it had now said it would be inappropriate to sell tickets to the ball.
The leather-and-lace-themed event was expected to draw a crowd of more than 600, and was set to be a night of colour and difference, with all those attending required to wear costume, he said.
Entertainment by internationally recognised performers had been organised, including fire-breathing and aerial acrobatics. Ball-goers would also be encouraged to take part in live bondage and domination displays.
The ball's creative director, Tanya Drewery, who will also perform on the night, said the point of difference between this event and other fetish balls was in the showy, Vegas-style acts.
It was not an "all-night sex party" but a certain element of sexual behaviour had to be expected. "People are gonna get horny left, right and centre. You have to expect that." - NZPA
