Filming ads at the train station was not all Nigella Lawson got up to in Wellington last month. The celebrity chef was kept company for a day by the capital's own culinary queen, Ruth Pretty.

Before a Whittaker's social cooking class hosted by Lawson and Pretty, Lawson was the surprise guest at a lunch at Pretty's home.

''With all this happening around her, and after the long hours she had worked on previous days filming a Whittaker's advertisement, Nigella remained gracious, down to earth, fun and interested in the surroundings,'' Pretty says. ''She looked even more beautiful in real life than she does on the screen."
