Hollywood star Orlando Bloom thrilled Wellington fans this week when he stopped into an Icebreaker store to stock up on winter woolies, and happily posed for photos.

Bloom, 34, his supermodel wife Miranda Kerr, 28, and the couple's baby Flynn, have been spotted a number of times around Wellington since they arrived in the city last month.

Mary Frances said she saw Bloom and his family having lunch at Floriditas on Sunday.

"I didn't actually recognise them at first. They looked so normal, relaxed. Then I figured they just wanted lunch, not fans," she said.

Bloom is in Wellington to shoot The Hobbit and will reportedly earn $1 million for his return as Legolas, despite appearing in the film for less than two minutes.

Bloom and Kerr were spotted looking at rental properties in the affluent suburb of Karaka Bays in August.

A number of Hobbit stars, including Evangeline Lilly and Stephen Fry have been spotted in Wellington's eastern suburbs in recent weeks as the next round of Hobbit filming gets under way.
