The day the dolphins came

Last updated 10:48 01/03/2013

The filmmaker who gave us snow has now given us dolphins - Wellington filmmaker Ro Tierney has captured the large pod which visited Wellington harbour yesterday.

Ro Tierney, originally from Ireland, came to the capital's attention after he made a short film about Wellington's rare 2011 snowfall.

More than 100 dolphins, believed to be bottlenose, were spotted in Wellington Harbour yesterday.

The large pod was first seen near Scorching Bay and Seatoun in the morning, and travelled around to Oriental Bay and Somes/Matiu Island in the afternoon.

Some dompost.co.nz readers have reported the pod is still frolicking in the harbour this morning.

See yesterday's photos of the pod here.
