OPINION: I learned with great sadness that Dancing With the Stars won't be aired next year because of cost.
I've been an avid fan since day one and not missed a dance, let alone an episode.
It occurred to me that maybe Maori Television might want to pick up this very popular show. It would be a great opportunity to highlight Maori language if the channel is truly serious about that and it could call it just revenge for the Rugby World Cup debacle.
Maori Party MP Hone Harawira could take over from Jason Gunn and could keep judge Craig Revel-Horwood in his place. Mr Harawira could dance at the start with his co-leader, Tariana Turia.
Celebrities could include the party's other co- leader Pita Sharples, rugby players Hosea Gear, Piri Weepu, Scott and Thomas Waldron, and activist Tame Iti. The ladies might be netballer Temepara George, runner Lisa Tamati, and, of course, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.
Most importantly, I'd get my 2010 fix of Dancing With the Stars.
