OPINION: I find the editorial "Hands off the jewel in Wellington's crown" somewhat ironic seeing Wellington chose to remove the jewel in Nelson's crown when the capital removed the World of WearableArt from its origins in Nelson a few years ago. The writer goes so far as to claim that "along with the World of WearableArt . . . the Wellington Sevens is one of the jewels in the capital's crown". Such a wonderfully one-eyed view.

I am sure many Nelsonians were equally incensed at the "vulture" (to use your term for those that may look to taking over the sevens) that saw fit to grab what had become a well- loved festival from its home of more than 20 years in Nelson. The editorial went on to praise the support of all the volunteers that make the Wellington sevens such a success. I am sure that the hundreds of volunteers in Nelson would also claim that it was because of their work that the wearable arts became so desirable an event for others to claim.

May I suggest you attend the next sevens as either a goose or a gander. Others will see no difference.

Emily #1 you might have read that in the Dom. Great letter from Doug. Just like the wearable arts can be brought so can the sevens!

From what I've read the Nelson organisers were happy for the event to be transferred to Welly as Nelson didn't have the resources to deal with it's massive growth.
