OPINION: I wish to support Ruth Wright in her support for the Prince of Wales to succeed our current Queen.

For some reason I cannot understand, the majority of media continue to refer to HRH the Prince of Wales as Prince Charles.

The day before Prince William's recent visit, a TV One news item referred to a visit to New Zealand some 90 years ago by "Prince Edward". Having commenced reading newspapers in the 1920s, I had no idea to whom they were referring.

The following clips showed the then Prince of Wales, later Edward VIII and Duke of Windsor. That Prince of Wales, right from World War I until he ascended the throne in 1936, was always referred to by his correct title, "Prince of Wales".

Prince William's father will be an excellent monarch. When he retired from the Royal Navy nearly 40 years ago, he used his final pay of £7400 to establish the Prince of Wales trust.

Currently that trust comprises 19 trusts and six social programmes. Last year the trust raised £130 million (the previous year £119m).

Not a bad achievement for a man referred to by Karl du Fresne some months ago as a "twerp".

I sincerely hope this country will never become a republic. There is nothing silly about our present administration; it is economic and functioning well.

A bit of wasted of time and effort writing this letter.

The public don’t get any choice in who our next Monarch will be. There is no choice. There is no decision based on merit or suitability. It is based purely on the line of succession. Monarchs reign until they die, the Queen has stated she will never abdicate.

Yours faithfully

Nathan
