OPINION: So, Wellington hosts yet another fantastic event over a wonderful weekend.
Wellington City Council rightly gloats (although surely the weather is in the lap of another god entirely) and belittles attempts by other cities to take the sevens from it. However, the council should not forget that great parties produce a lot of rubbish - and boy was there a lot. It was still there on Monday morning on Stout and Featherston streets. An empty bottle or broken glass or food carton almost every few metres.
It doesn't look good and it doesn't feel good when you overhear the tourist couple in front of you remark on the amount of rubbish. Clean and green? Come on, WCC - with great parties come responsibilities and there are a lot of streets in Wellington that need a jolly good sweep.
