Letter: Having kids is not a right

OPINION: I feel it's necessary for us to have a change of mindset over bringing children into the world.
Until now, it has seemed that, to bear children is a universal right, and to challenge that idea is inhumane.
However, with the institution of marriage breaking down and the apparent acceptance of the principle that people who can't look after their own children must be helped by various organisations, perhaps it's time for a rethink.
I believe it would be sensible (and not inhumane) for the Government to institute an ongoing campaign that children should see the light of day only when parents can reasonably expect that they will be brought up in a stable family situation.
After all, we have education and we have the pill - is this too much to expect?
There would be short, medium and long-term benefits, including a better educated workforce, less crime, a greater sense of responsibility in sexual behaviour and a better deal for children.

Having kids to me is not a right but a privilege! I know women who have kids just for the sake of having them and then they complain about their lack of freedom and being tied to the kid(s).
As for me I chose to be child free and what a wonderful life I have without these little critters! Its a lifestyle that I reccomend! GREAT
