OPINION: Let Piri Weepu stay in the north with the Blues and Auckland. He didn't have confidence in Hurricanes coach Mark Hammett. There's a young and talented halfback down here in TJ Perenara. He has a lot of potential that a rising 29-year-old Weepu doesn't have.

Weepu is over-rated, anyway. He is most useful coming off the bench. His Rugby World Cup centred around the Argentina game. In other games he was an inconsistent goalkicker.

He should have gone to league because he's too heavy and slow. He has a weight problem that hasn't been tackled. Professional sportsmen and women don't turn up at preseason training kilos overweight.
