OPINION: The Dominion Post will recall that five or so years ago, the Wellington regional strategy was launched.
An organisation called Grow Wellington was conceived to stimulate regional development, create jobs, and create more business opportunities.
Many millions in ratepayers' money has been used to fund the organisation but, five or so years later, Wellington is still in economic decline.
So now we're told another organisation established by Wellington City Council will create more jobs, stimulate the local economy, and attract more businesses.
Wasn't this supposed to be the function of Grow Wellington all those years ago? It's ended up as a complete lemon and another exercise in wasting ratepayers' money by local government.
If Grow Wellington hasn't achieved any economic growth in the Wellington region, I can't see the economic development agency set up by Wellington's council making any difference.
It will only waste more ratepayers' money.
