OPINION: I refer to Memorial Park prospect is terrifying (Letters, Nov 16), by Gabby Bush.

Planning for Memorial Park has been under way for many years and extensive thought and consultation have gone into designing a safe, functional and enjoyable space for the public.

Visitor safety is of the utmost priority. The Culture and Heritage Ministry has commissioned a report looking into safety issues at Memorial Park. The park will be an asset to the local community as well as a national space for remembrance and we will ensure a safe environment is created, which takes into consideration the needs of all its many users.
