Letters to the Editor

Feeding kids about more than money Rest homes there to help voters If they want it, give it to them Choice of words mixes message Light rail still makes sense Ease up on the scaremongering Haka meant to be about peace, not war Chess is a valuable teacher Centenary time to remember sacrifices Time to sift through facts and figures

OPINION: I applaud Sue Kedgley for her article about the decline of the railways (Opinion, Feb 26). How can we be so foolish? Petrol is not getting cheaper.

So much freight could go by rail and save repairs to the roads. Families could travel by train if the fares for children were reduced. We're a crazy society indeed.

The train between Wellington and Auckland hardly stops at all, so ''tourists will enjoy the trip more''. But one of the things tourists on the trains enjoy most is the chance to mingle and chat to local people.

Let the train stop at every station. When I had visitors/ tourists who came to me by train, I had to drag them off at Ohakune. Tourists don't care how long the trip takes.
