Timely gift from Bob Jones

Lambton Quay pedestrians will be better informed about how long they have to shop or get to work, thanks in part to Sir Robert Jones.
The Bob Jones Clock will be installed next month on an existing trolley bus pole outside Sybase House, near The Occidental, with most of the funding coming from the commercial property investor, who identified the need for the timepiece.
"The rationale was solely to donate an ambience feature perhaps not terribly imaginative or quirky, but still grist to the mill vis-a-vis enhancing the CBD," Jones said.
The Wellington City Council will own and operate the clock, which cost about $23,000, of which $20,500 was provided by Jones.
The clock was intended to have been installed last year as part of the Lambton Quay Project, but wind-load and lighting issues caused a delay.
The analogue-style clock will have a diameter of one metre and will illuminate at night. Components were made in Lower Hutt, Plimmerton and Switzerland.
