Andrew Tapper, of Remuera, and Steven Fernandez, of Epsom, were among 30-odd people at Auckland Airport this morning to meet the pop superstar who looked a little dazed on arrival, they say.

Fernandez said Gaga seemed pretty stunned by the "brawl of people" greeting her at around 6.30am this morning. "I’ve never seen anything like it. She was very overwhelmed and looked stunned."

The pair are no strangers to celebrities having spent a month in Los Angeles following, and being photographed, with a string of famous faces, including Paris Hilton.

They have met around 25 celebrities including Marilyn Manson, Leonardo DiCaprio and the entire Hilton family.

More recently they had drinks with the Black Eyed Peas when they were last in New Zealand.

Tapper said he was the first to be photographed with Gaga before paparazzi and other fans surrounded her. “[She] was one of the toughest. It was very hard to get the photos with her.”

The pair then followed Gaga and her entourage to Auckland’s Sky City Hotel and spent a few moments chatting with her outside. They left after being promised a second photo with her, but she was whisked away.

'THE REAL MONSTER BALL'

Gaga told Edge Radio Station this morning she had "put in a little extra money this year for the freight so that all the fans here could see the exact same show that everyone else sees all over the world".

"This is not going to be an abridged show; they're going to see the real Monster Ball.''

The songstress, who is well known for her bizarre dress sense, heralded her arrival on Twitter around 7.30am today.

"Just arrived in New Zealand, greeted at 7am by all my beautiful fans, glitter faces + police. Can't wait to perform the show of a lifetime," she said.

"Catch me if you can kiwis. I'm in a walka. Play telephone?x," she tweeted.

This is the second time she's toured New Zealand after supporting the Pussycat Dolls last year.

Lady Gaga is well known for the outrageous.

At one stage in her show last year she bared her bottom and simulated masturbation to the crowd.

In February, she scooped the Brit Awards, earning awards for best international female, breakthrough act and best international album for The Fame.

She has more than three million Twitter followers.
