An American man reckons he's got what it takes to impress Wellington director Peter Jackson.

Patrick R Spadaccino lives in Middletown, Connecticut, in the United States but has launched an audacious attempt to play even a minor role in The Hobbit.

"Flying to New Zealand on the chance of auditioning as an extra is both time and cost-prohibitive.

So, I've attempted an alternate means of auditioning: I created a website and mini social media campaign called "I Wanna Be in the Hobbit Movies."

In the videos he doesn't just explain why he wants to be part of the movies but also performs several scenes from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit in orc and goblin makeup.

"I created everything myself, from the website design and implementation, original background music, and new dialogue based on The Hobbit, to the makeup, video production and photography."

Meanwhile, Jackson yesterday released his own new video: a video blog detailing the latest work inside the production of The Hobbit.
