Wellington's Embassy Theatre will be selling tickets to the Hobbit from midnight tonight due to the level of expressed interest.

The Embassy Theatre posted on its Facebook page that onsite box office sales would now begin at midnight rather than 9am tomorrow morning.

Junior manager Elly Morris said there had been a lot of emails, calls and Facebook posts from people voicing an interest in buying the tickets at midnight in person.

Ms Morris said the box office would be open until the queues died down and so as long as people were lining up at midnight, they would not be turned away.

Online tickets will also be available at midnight though phone sales will only be available from 9am.

The Hobbit will be screening from December 12.

Courtenay Pl will be covered in more than 500m of red carpet, stretching from Taranaki St to the Embassy Theatre for the November 28 premiere.
